In 1999 the firm redesigned a compound of three summer houses overlooking Nantucket Harbor. Mr. McNeely successfully negotiated with the island authorities to demolish two of the houses, move their footprints closer to the shore, and rebuild them at a larger scale. In 1995 Mr. McNeely built for his family an 1100 square foot weekend retreat on the coast of Maine. It is a tower in the Shingle Style. The term was coined by McNeely’s mentor, Yale architectural historian Vincent Scully, referring to the shingled summer cottages built in the 1880’s along the New England coast. The house has been featured on the HGTV show "Extreme Homes". |
